BRADENTON, Fla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC loanee Brandon Servania was one of six different goalscorers on Monday night as the United States U-20 National Team moved into sole possession of first place in Group A at the Concacaf U-20 Championship with a 6-1 win against Trinidada & Tobago at IMG Academy.
Servania – named to the 2018 USL 20 Under 20 last month – was among eight players with USL experience in the starting lineup for Head Coach Tab Ramos and put the United States ahead in the sixth minute as he found space 25 yards from goal and fired home a low shot to the left corner.
Two minutes later the United States doubled its lead when Justin Rennicks – who played this past summer for the Boston Bolts in USL League Two – saw his shot deflect off T&T defender Justin Homer, which wrongfooted the goalkeeper and saw the ball roll into the right corner. FC Dallas’ Paxton Pomykal added a third just before halftime with a first-time finish off a low cross by Rennicks.
Former LA Galaxy II standouts Alex Mendez and Ulysses Llanez continued their impressive tournaments in the second half with a goal apiece, with Mendez’s arriving seven minutes after the halftime break. Trinidad & Tobago pulled a goal back two minutes later through Isaiah Lee, but Llanez quickly produced a response for the U.S. with his tournament-leading fifth goal off the rebound of Pomykal’s initial effort.
Juan Pablo Torres completed the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time to leave the United States with three wins from three to open the group stage.
Aided by a 2-1 victory by Puerto Rico against Suriname, which had won its opening two games of the tournament, the United States now holds a three-point lead at the top of Group A ahead of its game on Wednesday night against St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
