The Tulsa Roughnecks FC traveled to Nevada Saturday night and was blanked 2-0 by Reno 1868 at Greater Nevada Field.  Reno scored a pair of first-half goals to record the victory.

The shutout marked just the second time in the past ten games that Tulsa has been held without a goal.  The loss leaves TRFC with 21 points on the season, while Reno improved to 52 points and need just one more to clinch a spot in the USL playoffs.

It was an open first half with both teams creating chances.  For the Roughnecks, they threatened several times, especially down the right side, but the final pass was lacking.

Reno finally converted one of its chances and opened the scoring in the 26th minute.  Antoine Hoppenot led Brian Brown into space on the left side.  Brown got behind defender Josh Morton and lofted a shot over Fabian Cerda and into the back of the net for the game’s first goal.

Five minutes later, Reno doubled its lead to 2-0 off a corner kick when Chris Wehan delivered a left-footed cross into the center of the box.  Zach Carroll beat Morton in the air and his header left Cerda with no chance.

The second half featured the best 45 minutes of the season for TRFC goalkeeper Fabian Cerda.  Reno totaled nine shots on target in the second stanza, but Cerda turned them all away.

The best save from the Tulsa keeper came in 88th minute when he denied a penalty kick effort from Brown, keeping the Tulsa deficit at two goals.

Offensively, it was more of the same for the Roughnecks.  TRFC produced stretches of good possession, but the pass that would produce the final shot was still lacking.

Reno 1868 owned a 54-46% advantage in possession during the match, while Cerda was credited with a season high 11 saves in the game.

The Roughnecks will now return to Tulsa for their next-to-last home match of the season.  TRFC will host the Rio Grande Valley Toros at ONEOK field on Saturday, October 6.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in downtown Tulsa.
