Jhon Pirez has been named to the USL Team of the Week.
Jhon Pirez’s impact for the Tulsa Roughnecks FC in Wednesday’s victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy II has earned him a spot on the USL Team of the Week for Week 16. Pirez scored the opening goal in what turned out to be the Roughnecks first victory of the season.
In the 40th minute of Wednesday’s match, the ball was cleared out of the Roughnecks box, sending Pirez on a sprint to the ball with just the keeper to beat. The first shot was saved by the keeper, but the rebound set perfectly on the ground, allowing Pirez to knock the second effort into the back of the net. It was a lead TRFC would not relinquish in what finished as a 2-0 victory.
In addition to Pirez, Fabian Cerda was named to the bench on the Team of the Week. The keeper earned a clean sheet in the Roughnecks win on Wednesday, and had a combined 12 saves in last week’s two matches
Pirez is the second Roughnecks player to earn a spot on the Team of the Week this season as Jon Bakero earned the honors in week 6.
