The Tulsa Roughnecks F.C. 2018 roster continued to grow on Tuesday as defender/forward Riggs Lennon was announced as a new signing. The 23-year-old Lennon joins the Roughnecks after spending last season in the USL with Real Monarchs SLC.
He is the older brother of former Liverpool F.C. youth player Brooks Lennon, who recently made a permanent move to Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer.
“Riggs is a young and dynamic player who can play left back or forward,” said TRFC Head Coach David Vaudreuil. “From any position, he is a box-to-box player with the skills and composure to help us unlock the opposition’s defense. We are excited to have him join our club.”
Lennon is the second new signing this week for Vaudreuil and the Roughnecks. On Monday, it was announced that Uruguayan forward and former Chelsea F.C. youth player Jhon Pirez has signed with TRFC for the 2018 season.
The 6’1” Lennon began his professional career last year with the Monarchs, appearing in one USL game.
He played collegiately for three years at the University of Virginia before spending his senior season at Creighton University. He scored 7 goals in 47 total appearances for the Cavaliers and helped them to the NCAA title his junior year, converting the title-clinching penalty kick.
After transferring to Creighton, he totaled 10 goals in 23 games in his one season with the Bluejays.
Lennon was named the Arizona High School Player of the Year three times and spent time with the United States U-17 Team.
