The Tulsa Roughnecks FC will play its final away match of the 2017 regular season when it travels to Arizona to face Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday, October 4. Kickoff for the match has been moved up to 8:00 p.m. CDT.
The Roughnecks will look to clinch their first-ever USL playoff berth with a victory in Wednesday’s match. Tulsa is currently in seventh place in the Western Conference standings with 43 points from a 12-11-4 record. The top eight finishers in the conference table qualify for the playoffs.
Phoenix currently occupies the fifth spot with 49 points and a 14-8-7 record, including an 8-3-2 home mark.
It will be the second and final meeting between the two sides this regular season as the Roughnecks picked up a 3-0 home victory over Phoenix on July 22 as Ian Svantesson, Jacori Hayes and Christian Thierjung all found the back of the net.
In three seasons of play, the Roughnecks have never lost to the Rising franchise, holding a 4-0-1 record, including a 3-0-1 mark when the team was known as Arizona United.
For the season, TRFC has posted a 4-7-4 record in away matches. Tulsa has lost only two of its last nine matches away from ONEOK Field, recording a 3-2-4 road record since dropping five straight away matches from May 5 through June 17.
The Rising had an 11-match unbeaten streak end Saturday night with a 2-0 loss in Sacramento.
The game is the USL Game of the Week and will be carried online through ESPN 3. The Roustabouts will host a Watch Party at Empire Bar at 1516 S. Peoria Avenue in Tulsa.
The Roughnecks will conclude the regular season with two home matches, hosting Seattle Sounders 2 on Saturday, October 7 and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, October 14. A victory in any of the final three games will wrap up a playoff berth for Tulsa.
The Phoenix roster includes former Chelsea F.C. susperstar Didier Drogba. (Brooke Carroll)
