The Tulsa Roughnecks FC has officially added a pair of goalkeepers to its roster ahead of Saturday night’s USL season opener at ONEOK Field. The Roughnecks have signed Oklahoma native Bryan Byars and Chilean keeper Fabian Cerda to contracts.
Byars comes to Tulsa after spending last year in the North American Soccer League with Rayo OKC. The 25-year-old has been in goal for most of TRFC’s preseason action and has performed well, surrendering only two goals in four matches.
He played collegiately for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma where he holds career records with 64 wins and 46 shutouts.
Byars also starred at Putnam City North High School, earning All-State and All-American honors and was a Gatorade National Player of the Year nominee.
Cerda comes to the Roughnecks from Transandino of Chile after receiving interest from new MLS side Atlanta United.
The 28-year-old keeper began his professional career in Chile’s first division with CD Universidad Católica in 2009, after coming up through the team’s youth system. He remained with Católica through 2015, but was loaned to Cobresal in 2014 and appeared in three matches.
Cerda has been with Trasandino since 2015 and has registered 42 appearances as the club’s number one goalkeeper. He is expected to arrive in Tulsa later this week.
The Roughnecks will open the 2017 USL regular season this Saturday, March 25, when they host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at ONEOK Field at 7PM.Tickets are available at the stadium ticket office and by clicking HERE.
