Tulsa Roughnecks head coach David Vaudreuil has added a midfielder with USL experience to the club’s 2017 roster. The Roughnecks announced that 24-year-old Joaquin Rivas has signed a deal with the club, pending USL and federation approval.
Rivas joins Tulsa after spending the past two seasons with Sacramento Republic FC. He made 19 total appearances for the Republic, featuring as an attacking winger.
Prior to turning professional, Rivas played four years for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) where he was a teammate with former Roughnecks midfielder Julian Portugal. After college, he starred for Kitsap Pumas in Bremerton, Washington, scoring 6 goals in 13 appearances for the PDL side.
Rivas and the Roughnecks squad will see their first official action this weekend when they face the University of Tulsa this Saturday afternoon, March 4. Kickoff is slated for 4:00pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium with admission only $5 per person. The TU women’s team will square off against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the second game of a soccer doubleheader on Saturday.
