Two teams locked in tight battle for playoff spot in USL’s Western Conference

MATCH PREVIEW
Saturday, August 12
vs. Oklahoma City Energy FC

Spanish Version

Tulsa Roughnecks FC will host a Black Gold Derby Match on Saturday for the only time this season as state rival Oklahoma City Energy visits ONEOK Field.  Kickoff for the match is set for 7:30 p.m.

Both teams will enter the match in their best forms of the season.  The Roughnecks have lost only one time in their past seven matches, dating back to July 1.  TRFC is 4-1-2 during the stretch, including a 2-1 win over the Energy on July 9 in the first of three meetings between the rivals this season.  The run also includes a 2-1 victory over Saint Louis FC on Thursday at ONEOK Field.

The Energy come into the match with an impressive run of their own, unbeaten in their past five outings.  The run has seen them win three times and draw twice and includes a 2-0 victory over USL leaders Real Monarchs SLC in their last match.

The winner of the Black Gold Derby each year is presented with a special wrench from the two club’s supporters groups, The Roustabouts and The Grid.  With its win in the first meeting, Tulsa could clinch the 2017 series with a win in Saturday’s game.  A draw or a win for Oklahoma City would carry the outcome into the final meeting which will take place at OKC’s Taft Stadium on September 17.

Tickets for the Black Gold Derby match are currently available online by clicking HERE, over the telephone at (918)744-5901 or in person at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office.

NOTES: The Roughnecks could be without their captain, Juan Pablo Caffa, for Saturday’s match.  Caffa left Thursday’s game with Saint Louis early in the first half with an apparent leg injury. . .Joey Calistri scored the second goal in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Saint Louis, his first goal since finding the net in TRFC’s win at Oklahoma City on July 8.  Calistri now has six goals on the season, tied with Caffa for second-most on the team. . .Jorge Corrales scored the first goal of Thursday’s match with a Goal of the Week nominee in the first half.  Corrales struck a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area that found the corner of the net.  It was the first goal of the regular season for the defender, though he did score from the midfield stripe during a preseason game with STLFC.
